    184.1 lb (83.51 kg)
  • Grade:
    N42
  • Max Operating Temp: Maximum operating temperature, also known as maximum service temperature, is the temperature at which the magnet may be exposed to continuously with no significant long-range instability or structural changes. Learn more in our Temperature and Neodymium Magnets article.
    176°F (80°C)
  • Surface Field: Surface field is the magnetic field strength at the surface of the magnet as measured by a Gauss meter. Our Surface Field Table is a comprehensive table of the surface field for all of our stock magnets. Learn about magnet surface field calculations in our Surface Fields 101 article.
    1955 Gauss
  • Material: This lists the name of the material each product is composed of.
    Neodymium (NdFeb)
  • BH Max: BH max is the Maximum Energy Product at the point on the B/H Curve that has the most strength, expressed in MGOe (MegaGaussOersteds). When describing the grade of a neodymium magnet, this number is commonly referred to as the "N" number, as in Grade N52 magnets. Learn more about Bh max in our glossary.
    42 MGOe
  • Tolerances: Dimensional tolerance specifies the allowed leeway for variations in manufacturing.
    ±0.004 in (.1mm)
  • Coating: Most neodymium magnets are plated or coated in order to protect the magnet material from corrosion. Check out our Custom Magnets for unplated magnets and other coatings not stocked for this size magnet. Learn more about all available platings and coating in our What Magnet Coating Should I Use? article.
    Nickel-Copper-Nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni)

    1.626 oz (46.1 g)
  • Br Max: Br max is also called "Residual Flux Density" and is when the magnetic induction remaining in a saturated magnetic material after the magnetizing field has been removed. This is the point at which the hysteresis loop crosses the B axis at zero magnetizing force, and represents the maximum flux output from the given magnet material. By definition, this point occurs at zero air gap, and therefore cannot be seen in practical use of magnet materials. Learn more about Br max in our glossary.
    13,200 Gauss
  • Color: The color of the coating or plating on the product.
    Silver

Product Description

The bzz082 long bar magnet has a 6" length, 1/2" width and 1/8" thickness, is magnetized through thickness and is coated with the standard nickel copper nickel plating with an outer gold coating, providing a smooth and durable surface that helps protect the magnet from corrosion. Made from N42 grade material, this magnet has a high size to strength ratio and can handle temperatures up to 176°F (80°C). This magnet has a max pull strength of 27.54lb. and a surface field 1955 gauss.

The bzz082 is a long, thin neodymium bar magnet designed for applications where magnetic strength is needed along a narrow, elongated area. Its rectangular shape and straight edges make it easy to align with rails, edges, slots, channels, and other long components, while its slim profile allows it to fit into spaces where wider block or disc magnets may not be practical. Its compact bar shape makes it a versatile choice for hobbyists, makers, engineers, designers, and manufacturers working on prototypes, 3D-printed parts, robotics, models, fixtures, magnetic closures, and custom assemblies. It can also be embedded into narrow recesses or used for alignment, positioning, detachable connections, and holding components along an edge or linear surface.

Common Applications

  • Latches & Closures - Building magnetic latches, closures, and linear holding systems.
  • Signs, Panels & Displays - Mounting signs, panels, displays, and elongated components.
  • Jigs & Positioning - Creating jigs, fixtures, guides, and positioning systems.
  • Woodworking & Cabinetry - Embedding magnets in woodworking and custom cabinetry.
  • Slots, Channels & Rails - Installing magnets in slots, channels, rails, and narrow recesses.
  • Prototypes & Robotics - Building prototypes, robotics, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Magnetic Arrays - Creating magnetic arrays and linear magnet assemblies.
  • Fabrication & Assembly - Holding and aligning components during fabrication and assembly.
  • Sensors & Switches - Building sensors, switches, and magnetic detection systems.
  • Panels & Detachable Components - Creating removable panels, covers, and detachable components.
  • STEM & Demonstrations - Building STEM projects and magnetic field demonstrations.
  • Custom & Industrial Projects - Creating custom fabricated, industrial, and DIY assemblies.

Product Features

  • Long, Narrow Shape - Elongated geometry provides magnetic performance across a greater length than typical block magnets.
  • Flat Rectangular Faces - Broad, flat surfaces provide effective contact with ferrous metal and other magnets.
  • Extended Magnetic Coverage - Longer geometry provides magnetic influence across a wider area of an assembly or mounting surface.
  • Straight Edges for Easy Alignment - Bar shape aligns naturally with rails, frames, edges, tracks, and other linear components.
  • Fits Narrow Spaces - Slender proportions work well in slots, channels, grooves, and elongated recesses.
  • Easy to Embed - Can be incorporated into wood, plastic, 3D-printed parts, and fabricated components using rectangular recesses.
  • Useful for Linear Magnet Arrangements - Bar magnets can be positioned end-to-end or side-by-side to create longer magnetic assemblies and arrays.
  • Easy to Orient - Distinct length and width make the magnet's physical orientation easy to identify and control within an assembly.
  • Permanent Magnet - Remains magnetized without requiring electricity, batteries, or an external power source.
  • Rare Earth Neodymium Magnet - The strongest type of permanent magnet available, providing exceptional strength for its size.
