Below are some common questions we get regarding magnet latches and installation.

Do neodymium magnetic latches lose strength?

No, neodymium is know for losing very little pull force even over decades. Even if the door or drawers are slammed shut many times, the neodymium will not become demagnetized like ceramic and ferrite magnets, making neodymium magnets the best magnetic latches and catches.

What are magnetic catches and latches?

A magnetic catch usually consists of two pieces of hardware. One side is typically a steel blank screwed into a door or drawer. The other side is some type of housing that has a magnet. When the door or drawer is closed, the magnet makes contact with the steel for a strong and secure hold.

How do you install a magnetic catch?

First, find a door or drawer to install on and choose a location. Near a handle is usually good. The side with the magnet is usually on the inside of the cabinet (since may be thicker) or drawer and the steel blank is typically installed directly onto the door or moving drawer. Once ideal location is found, attach latch with screws and make sure the magnet side is inlaid enough so the door will close and be flush.
