Product Description

The epid2 is a compact electronic magnetic pole identifier designed to quickly and accurately determine the north or south pole of a magnet. Simply position the tip near the magnet and press the button; an LED indicates the detected polarity. The 5.75" long tool includes a protective case and features an easily accessible battery compartment for quick battery replacement. The epid2 requires one AAA battery, sold separately, and is designed for use with magnets 1/8" in diameter or larger.

The epid2 magnetic pole detector provides a fast and reliable way to find magnet polarity during assembly, inspection, testing, and experimentation. Quickly finding north and south poles helps ensure magnets are installed in the correct orientation and can prevent polarity errors when building assemblies that require specific attraction or repulsion. It is a useful tool for engineers, technicians, manufacturers, makers, hobbyists, and educators working with permanent magnets. The epid2 can be used for quality control, magnet installation, magnetic assemblies, motors, sensors, prototypes, repairs, classroom demonstrations, STEM projects, and other applications where quickly identifying magnetic polarity is important.

Common Applications

  • North & South Pole Identification - Finding the north and south poles of permanent magnets.
  • Pre-Installation Polarity Checks - Checking magnet polarity before installation.
  • Attraction & Repulsion Orientation - Orienting magnets correctly for attraction or repulsion.
  • Magnetic Closures & Connections - Matching pole direction in magnetic closures and connections.
  • Product Assembly - Verifying magnet orientation during product assembly.
  • Motors, Sensors & Components - Checking polarity in motors, sensors, and magnetic components.
  • Magnet Sorting - Sorting magnets by pole orientation.
  • Manufacturing & Quality Control - Inspecting magnets during manufacturing and quality control.
  • Troubleshooting - Troubleshooting incorrectly installed magnets.
  • Prototypes & Custom Assemblies - Building prototypes and custom magnetic assemblies.
  • STEM & Classroom Demonstrations - Demonstrating magnetic polarity in STEM and classroom projects.
  • Magnetic Arrays & Multi-Magnet Systems - Checking pole orientation in magnetic arrays and multi-magnet systems.

Product Features

  • Identifies Magnetic Poles - Quickly determines the north and south poles of permanent magnets.
  • Easy Polarity Checking - Provides a simple way to verify magnetic orientation before installation or assembly.
  • Helps Prevent Assembly Errors - Confirms pole direction before magnets are glued, pressed, or permanently installed into components.
  • Useful for Magnet-to-Magnet Pairing - Helps orient mating magnets correctly for attraction rather than unintended repulsion.
  • Quick Magnet Inspection - Makes it easy to check individual magnets during prototyping, production, and quality control.
  • Works with Different Magnet Shapes - Useful for checking the polarity of discs, blocks, rings, cylinders, and other permanent magnets.
  • Non-Destructive Testing - Identifies magnetic polarity without modifying or damaging the magnet.
  • Compact Testing Tool - Convenient for workbenches, laboratories, production areas, and field use.
  • Simplifies Magnetic Assembly - Helps maintain consistent pole orientation when installing multiple magnets into a product or fixture.
  • Useful for Troubleshooting - Helps diagnose incorrect magnet orientation in magnetic closures, assemblies, and prototypes.
