R421 Specifications

  • Dimensions: This shows the name of each dimension and how it is measured in the image.
  • Magnetization Direction: The direction through which the magnet is magnetized. See our Magnetization Directions page for more details.
Magnetization direction icon Magnetized Through Thickness
  • Size: Size is the physical dimensions of the product using the standard unit of measure inches.
    0.25 x 0.125 x 0.062 Inch ( Diameter x ID x Thickness )
  • Metric Size: Metric size is the physical dimensions of the product in metric millimeters.
    6.35 x 3.17 x 1.59 mm ( Diameter x ID x Thickness )
  • Pull Force 1: Pull force case 1 represents a magnet attracting to a thick steel plate. Learn more about Magnet Pull Force Case 1.
    0.95 lb (0.43 kg)
  • Pull Force 2: Pull force case 2 represents a magnet attracting to a thick steel plate on both sides. Learn more about Magnet Pull Force Case 2.
    2.7 lb (1.22 kg)
  • Grade:
    N42
  • Max Operating Temp: Maximum operating temperature, also known as maximum service temperature, is the temperature at which the magnet may be exposed to continuously with no significant long-range instability or structural changes. Learn more in our Temperature and Neodymium Magnets article.
    176°F (80°C)
  • Material: This lists the name of the material each product is composed of.
    Neodymium (NdFeb)
  • BH Max: BH max is the Maximum Energy Product at the point on the B/H Curve that has the most strength, expressed in MGOe (MegaGaussOersteds). When describing the grade of a neodymium magnet, this number is commonly referred to as the "N" number, as in Grade N52 magnets. Learn more about Bh max in our glossary.
    42 MGOe
  • Tolerances: Dimensional tolerance specifies the allowed leeway for variations in manufacturing.
    ±0.004 in (.1mm)
  • Coating: Most neodymium magnets are plated or coated in order to protect the magnet material from corrosion. Check out our Custom Magnets for unplated magnets and other coatings not stocked for this size magnet. Learn more about all available platings and coating in our What Magnet Coating Should I Use? article.
    Nickel-Copper-Nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni)

    0.01 oz (0.28 g)
  • Br Max: Br max is also called "Residual Flux Density" and is when the magnetic induction remaining in a saturated magnetic material after the magnetizing field has been removed. This is the point at which the hysteresis loop crosses the B axis at zero magnetizing force, and represents the maximum flux output from the given magnet material. By definition, this point occurs at zero air gap, and therefore cannot be seen in practical use of magnet materials. Learn more about Br max in our glossary.
    13,200 Gauss
  • Color: The color of the coating or plating on the product.
    Silver

Product Description

The r421 ring magnet has a 1/4" diameter, 1/8" ID and 1/16" thickness and has a hole in the center. It is magnetized through thickness and is coated with a nickel copper nickel plating providing a smooth and durable surface that helps protect the magnet from corrosion. Made from N42 grade material, this magnet has a high size to strength ratio and can handle max operating temperatures up to 176°F (80°C).

The r421 is a powerful ring shaped magnet that works well in tight spaces where a compact magnet with strong holding force is needed. Its small 1/4" outer diameter makes it a versatile choice for hobbyists, makers, engineers, designers, and educators working on models and miniatures, 3D-printed parts, crafts, small electronics, prototypes, robotics, hidden closures, and lightweight mounting applications. It can also be embedded into products and enclosures or used to align removable parts and hold small components during assembly.

Common Applications

  • Rods & Shafts - Building assemblies around rods, shafts, pins, and tubes.
  • Sensors & Switches - Creating sensors, switches, and position-detection systems.
  • Motors & Generators - Building motors, generators, and rotating mechanisms.
  • Models & Miniatures - Assembling models, miniatures, and hobby projects.
  • 3D Printing & Fabrication - Embedding magnets in 3D-printed and fabricated parts.
  • Closures & Connections - Creating magnetic closures and detachable connections.
  • Robotics & Mechanics - Building robotics and small mechanical assemblies.
  • Science - Making science experiments and demonstrations.
  • Alignment & Positioning - Creating alignment, positioning, and locating systems.
  • Prototypes & Product Design - Building prototypes and custom product designs.
  • Wire & Component Routing - Routing wires, fasteners, or components through a magnetic assembly.
  • Crafts & Displays - Making crafts, displays, and decorative projects.

Product Features

  • Center Hole Design - The opening allows rods, shafts, tubes, wires, and other components to pass through the magnet.
  • Easy to Align - The center hole can help position the magnet around a shaft, pin, post, or other locating feature.
  • Flat Magnetic Faces - Provides convenient face-to-face attraction to magnets and ferrous metal.
  • Easy to Stack - Multiple ring magnets can be stacked while maintaining an open passage through the center.
  • Concentric Geometry - Uniform circular geometry works naturally with round components and rotational assemblies.
  • Easy to Embed - Can be incorporated into appropriately sized annular recesses in fabricated, molded, and 3D-printed parts.
  • Versatile Installation - The center opening provides additional options for retaining or integrating the magnet into an assembly.
  • Permanent Magnet - Remains magnetized without requiring electricity, batteries, or an external power source.
  • Rare Earth Neodymium Magnet - The strongest type of permanent magnet available, providing exceptional strength for its size.
