What is a plastic or rubber coated magnet? -  A plastic or rubber coated magnet is simply a magnet with a coating of plastic or rubber. This plastic or rubber coating not only provides good weather and corrosion resistance, but also provides more shock or impact resistance and is less likely to scratch the surface they are attached to. Rubber coated magnets additionally add friction to assist with hanging things with magnets.

What are plastic & rubber coated magnets used for? -  Plastic and rubber coated magnets are used for a wide variety of applications. Due to their great weather and corrosion resistance, they are often used outside, in fish tanks, in wet or humid environments, etc. Plastic also comes in many colors and they are great to match decor or to use as fridge magnets. Rubber magnets are often used to provide high-friction, perfect for hanging things with magnets on a wall etc. For aquarium use, we only recommend the plastic coating.

Can I glue magnets to plastic? -  Yes, you can glue magnets to plastic. Plastic or rubber covered magnets may have a better bond strength than a nickel finish. Bond strength will vary per material so be sure to check product label and test. Learn more in our Gluing Magnets article.
