Magnetic Board Magnet General Information

Below are some common questions we get regarding magnetic board magnets and which magnets are strong enough for which boards.

Can you use magnets on a dry erase board?

Yes, magnets can be used on any magnetic dry erase board including magnetic whiteboards and magnetic glass dry erase boards as long as they have a stainless steel or magnetic backing.

Why won't my magnet stick to my whiteboard?

A magnet loses pull force over a gap such as magnetic whiteboard coatings or the thickness of the magnetic glass. The gap will increase more if paper, photos, etc. are added between the magnet and steel. Low friction can also cause a magnet to slide down. What is the difference between a magnetic white board and magnetic glass board?

Both magnetic whiteboards and magnetic glass or glass whiteboards have a steel backing, but the thickness of the glass is the key difference as gaps decrease pull force of a magnet. Magnetic Board Magnet Coatings

Our magnets for glass boards and white boards have nickel, plastic and rubber coatings. The plastic and rubber coating will not scratch the white board or glass surface. Nickel plating may cause scratches on white boards if slid around under pressure.
